The African Management Services
Company (ASMCO) was established in 1989
as part of the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) to provide professional
management and capacity building services to African
businesses with the aim of making them more profitable,
globally competitive and sustainable. The organization is
funded by a number of financial institutions including the
International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is the executing
agency of this project and the African Development Bank (ADB).
Opportunities currently exist within the oil palm production and ‘LPG’
gas sectors for managers with strong leadership and business skills to
assist us in ensuring Africa’s SME’s flourish.
This start-up plantation, will cover an area of 10,000 hectares, to provide raw
material for the production of cooking oil and laundry soaps. The successful
candidate will report to a select Committee and will be responsible for

- Management of agricultural projects,

- Project Management

A UK consortium is developing a new in-car navigation system to beat traffic jams. The 'Congestion Avoidance Dynamic Routing Engine' (CADRE) uses artificial intelligence to inform drivers of the best routes to take before they reach a jam -- 5 to 10 miles away from the congestion point. The system is able to interpret live traffic information shared between vehicles equipped with a special GPS device. This system should be available commercially by 2010. The researchers think that this system could be extended to ferries, trains and even planes allowing travelers 'to check different departure times to estimate the best time to travel.'
