Le premier long-métrage de Peter Jackson, Bad Taste, fut tourné uniquement les weekends pendant 4 ans, avec ses amis dans les premiers rôles. C'est Peter Jackson qui le finança de sa poche jusqu'à ce que, lorsque le film était déjà bien avancé, la New Zealand Film Commission, voyant le travail accompli, décide de financer le reste du film.
